NRX thumb braces are designed to support and stabilize the CMC and MCP joints. The braces are made of NRX material with a pocket for thermoplastics. The plastic insert is adjusted individually by using hot water, ( Not Boiling) 75 degrees C.
Try the brace on without the thermoplastic piece to get the right size.
Place the thermoplastic piece inside the pocket on the inside of the brace. Make sure that the shape fits correctly in the pocket.
Fold the pocket slightly to open it. WITH CARE Pour hot water (Not Boiling) 75 C , into the pocket. It takes usually under 1 minute for the plastic to turn soft. If needed refill the pocket with more water.
When the plastic is soft, WITH CARE pour out the water and place the brace flat on a towel to absorb the moisture.
Check the insert is NOT TOO HOT TO TOUCH – Then apply it on the hand, hold it in position for 2-3 minutes until the plastic has set.
The additional hook strap from the thumb grip can be used to stabilize and support the thumb further. Try different applications to find the most suitable support.
If needed, the plastic can be remoulded by using hot water again. Simply open the pocket and start from point 3 again. The plastic can also be taken out and moulded separately.
